Industrial Inspection and Alignment – Project Overview
This webinar explains how industrial inspection and alignment projects are carried out using the Leica Absolute Tracker AT500 and PolyWorks. It highlights the key project phases, strategic considerations, and the value of different approaches, giving decision-makers a clear view of costs, benefits, and execution models.
Webinar Recap:
In this session, Precinor and ProRAM provided a structured overview of how industrial metrology projects are executed, focusing on inspection and alignment workflows supported by the Leica Absolute Tracker AT500 and PolyWorks Inspector software.
The webinar highlighted how industrial metrology is not only about quality control, but also about production support, large-scale alignment, and rework reduction. In industries such as shipbuilding, oil and gas, and offshore installations, advanced metrology solutions have become a strategic necessity where accuracy, time, and cost efficiency are critical.
We presented the key phases of a typical inspection project: measurement planning, setup and connection of the AT500 laser tracker, execution of alignments and measurements, on-site inspection and analysis, and final reporting. Strategic considerations were also discussed, including how to define the real measurement need, how to justify budget based on avoided downtime and reduced rework, and how to choose between building in-house competence or relying on external metrology service providers.
ProRAM demonstrated how PolyWorks Inspector supports universality, repeatability, traceable reporting, and collaboration across teams. A detailed project walk-through showed how a structured work order, fast setup of the AT500, and consistent inspection procedures result in reliable data and actionable reports that can be updated and shared with stakeholders across an organization.
The session concluded with a comparison of ownership and service models for industrial metrology solutions. Participants learned the trade-offs between investing in their own equipment and software, relying fully on service providers, or adopting a hybrid model that combines both approaches.
This on-demand webinar gives decision-makers a clear, strategic understanding of how industrial inspection and alignment projects are carried out, what value they deliver, and how to evaluate the most effective model for their business.

Industrial Inspection and Alignment – Project Overview
This focused morning session will give you a clear, strategic view of how industrial metrology projects are executed, and where they deliver measurable value.
Together with our expert partner ProRAM, we’ll take you inside a real inspection and alignment project using the Leica Leica Absolute Tracker AT500 and PolyWorks software. You’ll see each project phase from planning to reporting, along with the critical decisions, tools, and competencies that make the work successful.
You will leave with:
-
A realistic understanding of how such projects unfold in practice.
-
Insight into the factors that drive value and cost.
-
Perspective on when to invest in your own solution versus engaging a specialist service provider.
Agenda:
- Introduction – Meet the presenters and get an overview of what the session will cover.
- Why Industrial Metrology? – Understand where and why high-precision measurement matters, with real-world examples from Norwegian industry.
- Big Picture: Project Workflow Overview – The five key project phases plus strategic considerations like need, budget, and in-house competence.
- Hardware Overview: AT500 Laser Tracker – What makes it suitable for demanding industrial and energy environments, and the range of compatible software options.
- Software Overview: Polyworks – A quick introduction for those unfamiliar with its role in inspection and alignment tasks.
- Project Walk-through – Step-by-step look at how a typical industrial metrology project is planned, executed, and reported.
- Discussion: Values, Costs, and Alternatives – Comparing the value and cost of owning a solution versus hiring a service provider, plus a look at alternative methods.
- Q&A – Your opportunity to ask questions and discuss specific challenges with our experts.
